Vicky Pattison broke my heart on Strictly Come Dancing<\/a> last Saturday.<\/p>\n

The 37-year-old former Geordie Shore<\/a> star and her partner Kai Widdrington<\/a> floated effortlessly across the dance floor to Sam Fender\u2019s Rein Me In. I thought it was seamless \u2013 and suddenly, she\u2019s become a real contender to win.<\/p>\n

After rave reviews from the judges and being told she \u2018could actually probably, maybe, possibly go all the way\u2019 by Shirley Ballas<\/a>, Vicky was in tears.<\/p>\n

But my heart sank when she later said to Claudia Winkleman<\/a>: \u2018I haven\u2019t really done an awful lot of stuff to make the North East proud, especially at the start of my career, so it feels really nice to be able to turn a corner on Strictly<\/a> and have all my family and friends watch us and maybe make them proud.\u2019<\/p>\n

There will be large swathes of Strictly Come Dancing viewers who know little about this Newcastle<\/a> darling. <\/p>\n

Many older Strictly fans in particular won\u2019t have even heard of Geordie Shore, the MTV reality show that thrived on its young cast getting \u2018absolutely mortal\u2019 on camera, then waking up with regret in front of its gripped audience.<\/p>\n

sex, comically absurd swearing, and was about as undignified as television can get. <\/p>\n<p>Somehow, though, it always felt strangely charming \u2013 largely because some (not all) of its stars were surprisingly likeable, quick-witted, and much smarter than MTV would have you believe.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img right. Her love life was a disaster, and we saw her at the centre of several toxic relationships, and plenty of blazing rows.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2013\/11\/17\/axed-geordie-shore-star-vicky-pattison-charged-with-assault-and-affray-after-nightclub-brawl-4189961\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2013\/11\/17\/axed-geordie-shore-star-vicky-pattison-charged-with-assault-and-affray-after-nightclub-brawl-4189961\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">she pleaded guilty to two counts of assault<\/a> and was sentenced to 180 hours of unpaid community service after throwing a high-heeled shoe at another clubber.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t her finest hour \u2013 and ultimately, it should have been career-ending. But thankfully, Vicky has grown a lot.<\/p>\n<p>One of the reasons I\u2019ve always admired her is that she\u2019s constantly learning and evolving. I loved them too. Unsurprisingly, they\u2019re nothing like the reckless students I remember them to be.<\/p>\n<p>Vicky was arguably the star of Geordie Shore\u2019s early seasons. And it was always clear to me she was destined for bigger and better things.<\/p>\n<p>After leaving Geordie Shore, Vicky was crowned Queen of the Jungle, winning I\u2019m A Celebrity in 2015. She instantly won viewers over with her quick wit and big heart. Vicky is candid and honest about her <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/mental-health\/\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\">mental health<\/a>, her past, and her mistakes.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s part of why, nearly 15 years after Geordie Shore introduced her to the world, she\u2019s shown a longevity few would have predicted.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-player\">\n<div class=\"video-player\">\n<div class=\"metro--video--warning\">\n<p><strong>Sorry, this video isn't available any more.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Vicky was the 11th contestant to be announced and was arguably the most recognisable name on the list. But as soon as she started dancing, the shift in her was immediate.<\/p>\n<p>Something came over and her Cha Cha was so confident, so energetic and so alive. <\/p>\n<p>Again, she received glowing review, albeit with some constructive criticism, but the main takeaway was: \u2018Don\u2019t be nervous.\u2019 <\/p>\n<section class=\"metro-comment-cta\">\n<div class=\"metro-comment-cta__inner\"><span class=\"metro-comment-cta__text-wrap\"><title>Comment now<\/title><span class=\"metro-comment-cta__text\">Who are you rooting for on Strictly? She\u2019s currently sitting steady in the middle of the leaderboard but Vicky\u2019s unshakeable humility, great craic and willingness to to dive head first into the unknown are all ingredients for a great Strictly star.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s so easy to root for, whether you\u2019re familiar with her or not, no matter her scores I\u2019m sure she\u2019s only going to gain more fans week on week. <\/p>\n<p>Now, she\u2019s looking increasingly likely to become the first person to win both I\u2019m A Celebrity and Strictly Come Dancing \u2013 which would, without doubt, make the North East proud.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"646\" height=\"363\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" class=\"article-image wp-image-24217251 lazyload\" alt=\"Vicky Pattison\" loading=\"lazy\" data-src=\"http:\/\/www.unlockingsite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/SEI_266196588-3d6e.jpg\">\t<\/div><figcaption>Right now, Vicky looks like she could go all the way and win (Picture: BBC)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Over the years, I actually think she\u2019s become a more-than-worthy ambassador for her hometown \u2013 and Strictly is just the latest, not the only, reason the North East should be proud of her.<\/p>\n<p>Strictly has become a brilliant platform for reality stars to rebrand themselves as respectable and ready for mainstream success.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Wright was the quintessential \u2018villain\u2019 of The Only Way Is Essex \u2014 seemingly cold, egotistical, and cruel. He did well on I\u2019m A Celebrity, but it was <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2019\/12\/21\/mark-wright-suffered-anxiety-so-badly-he-felt-like-hed-pass-out-on-strictly-come-dancing-11937292\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2019\/12\/21\/mark-wright-suffered-anxiety-so-badly-he-felt-like-hed-pass-out-on-strictly-come-dancing-11937292\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Strictly that softened his image<\/a> and made him the inescapable TV presence he is today. <\/p>\n<p>The public loved him. He co-presented This Morning, and even appeared on Who Do You Think You Are? \u2014 a docuseries usually reserved for celebs of a more \u2018respectable\u2019 calibre.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, these days, Love Island alums Tasha Ghouri and Zara McDermott are better known for their activism, thanks to their Strictly success.<\/p>\n<p>But I believe Vicky is already more established than any reality star who has appeared on Strictly before her. Right now, she also looks like she could be the first to go all the way and win.<\/p>\n<p>Should she lift the Glitterball trophy \u2013 or even just reach the final \u2013 I predict Vicky will become one of Strictly\u2019s true success stories, returning to primetime where she belongs.<\/p>\n<p>I hope she knows that, actually, she\u2019s already done a lot to make the North East proud.
