href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/richard-dreyfuss\/\">Richard Dreyfuss <\/a>was forced to cancel a fan convention appearance after falling ill over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The 77-year-old actor, who played sceptical oceanographer Matt Hooper in <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/07\/11\/4-films-iconic-horror-series-hailed-a-cinematic-masterpiece-coming-netflix-23635931\/\">Steven Spielberg’s 1975 horror classic<\/a>, was due to appear at the National Geographic-sponsored SharkCon in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>However, in a video shared to the convention’s Instagram, he revealed he was pulling out of the appearance after getting diagnosed with viral bronchitis.<\/p>\n<p>In a video from a bed, Richard said: ‘Hello cons, I’m very, very sorry to tell you that I’ve been diagnosed with viral bronchitis. And very sorry for yourselves. I’m in a lot of pain, and that has to come first, my health, and I feel very good about having the time and enough health.’<\/p>\n<div class=\"factbox\" data-ico=\"factbox_article\" data-track-module=\"factbox_article\">\n<h2 class=\"factbox-title\">\n\t\t\t\tViral bronchitis symptoms\t\t\t<\/h2>\n<div class=\"factbox-content\">\n<p>According to the NHS, symptoms include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>High temperature<\/li>\n<li>Cough, and possibly coughing up clear, white, yellow or green mucus<\/li>\n<li>Chest pain when coughing<\/li>\n<li>Shortness of breath<\/li>\n<li>Sore throat<\/li>\n<li>Runny nose<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>SharkCon has also offered an apology to fans, and confirmed: ‘All prepaid autographs and photo ops will automatically be refunded. There is no reason to reach out.<\/p>\n<p>‘It will take 5-10 business days plus what your bank takes for them to be processed. We are so sorry for any inconvenience.
