Almost seven years after I broke my Caution <\/em>CD from repeat listens in the car, Mariah Carey<\/a> finally has a new album locked and loaded.<\/p>\n

The elusive chanteuse \u2014 and my biological mother, if that matters to anyone \u2014 revealed the news on a livestream broadcast celebrating ten years of Apple Music. Sitting with hosts Zane Lowe and Ebro Darden, Carey explained: \u201cI\u2019m trying not to tell too much about the new album. \u2018It\u2019s a special occasion\/ Mimi\u2019s emancipation\u2019 \u2014 that\u2019s a lyric from one of my songs.\u201d<\/p>\n

She reiterates again: \u201cI don\u2019t want to tell too much about it because I just don\u2019t want to reveal the whole thing, you know?\u201d Lowe interjects mid-answer, saying, \u201cThat\u2019s our job,\u201d before following up with a question: \u201cSo it\u2019s finished?\u201d Carey, coyly, tells him, \u201cYes, it is,\u201d before revealing there are approximately \u201celeven… or twelve\u201d tracks.<\/p>\n

And, for all my little lambs out there, she even adds there will be \u201cbig\u201d Mariah-style ballads on the record, with a second single coming soon that\u2019s \u201cvery summery.\u201d <\/p>\n

As Billboard<\/em> reports<\/u><\/a>, the unnamed album already garnered her a 50th entry on the Billboard Hot 100<\/em> with \u201cType Dangerous,” released in June. Prior to its release, she also celebrated the 20th anniversary of her groundbreaking album The Emancipation of Mimi<\/em> with a slew of remixes, including Kaytranada\u2019s \u201cDon\u2019t Forget About Us\u201d and Solange\u2019s \u201cSay Somethin\u2019.” She also released a remix of Ariana Grande\u2019s \u201cyes, and?\u201d in 2024, as part of the promotional cycle for Grande\u2019s Eternal Sunshine<\/em>, at last co-signing an artistic lineage between the two that has been hotly debated by internet trolls for the last 12 years.<\/p>\n

Shortly after the \u201cyes, and?\u201d remix dropped, I retired to the cave<\/u><\/a> where they keep me in between Mariah Carey album cycles, patiently waiting on news of something that felt like it might never come. I still had the \u201cCan\u2019t Take That Away (Mariah\u2019s Theme) Morales Revival Triumphant Mix\u201d to hold me down, but as the months rolled into a full year, I began to feel like I\u2019d never see the sun again. I\u2019m glad I was wrong. Besides, I\u2019m sure the bugs and rats I live with in here will appreciate hearing something new blasting from my busted up iPhone speakers for a change.<\/p>\n
